I like to think that bloggers innately post things for me on my birthday… That somehow, even thought they don’t know it, they are posting something inspired by/to inspire me. So, here’s a shout out to the posts that most certainly must have been posted for me on my birthday:

Row 1 (L-R):

white plates on My Polaroid Blog – I have all white plates and have always loved the clean simplicity of them.

Zoe Kravitz on Frugal Fashionista – Love her style, love that the debuted her on my birthday, love the tiered white dress and the flower in her hair.

I never wanted Fall to come so badly! on Liebe Marlene Vintage Lookbook – Although I’m not TOO anxious for fall (because it precedes winter, which I’m DREADING, and because that means summer is already over), I love the layering of dresses and tights.

Row 2:

Yet, another.. on Simplicity Photography – The styling of the people she photographs is usually pretty awesome.  Although this isn’t my favorite post of hers, I do love the tutu and chair that accent this baby so perfectly.

Board #250: Aqua & Poppy on Snippet & Ink – I LOVE anything red, and especially aqua and red.  And calling the shade of red “poppy” just makes it so happy and cheerful and summery and fun.  I am still trying to figure out how to incorporate this combination into my wardrobe without looking too wannabe bridesmaid (for a dress) and still cannot find the perfect aqua shirt.  Easily my favorite birthday post.

More too come: pictures from my birthday.  Stay tuned!!

A Preview: I did get For the Love of Light from Brad!! I was worried I wouldn’t because he told me they were sold out!!  Little trickster!

Over the past two days, I have successfully browsed through all 351 posts on Liebe Marlene Vintage and the pictures of “wares” at Geminola.

I discovered Liebe Marlene on a recent search for who knows what, where I was directed to her flickr site. I fell in love with her fabulous vintage style and pretty dresses. I also coveted her brown boots (I am unsuccessfully searching for a pair)—>

Rhiannon wears lots of cute dresses, and also lots of fun tights. I pretty much want to recreate most of her finds. I am ordering these shoes and seeing if I can un-creatively copy the way she wears them.

Then, I found out (from her blog) that she was just recently featured in the August issue of Lucky Magazine, so I hurried and bought it. She only has one page, but her photos are so cute (you can see it on her site, here). I’m definitely going to have to make myself that bow belt.

BONUS: She looks kind of like a cross between Maggie Gyllenhaal and Zooey Deschanel, who are definitely on my style inspiration list right now (especially Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character in Stranger than Fiction).

GEMINOLA was discovered through Lucky Magazine when Zooey Deschanel was on the cover. On her page is a little photo of the store, and I fell in love with the tiered, red lace dress with black jeweled belt and turquoise beaded necklace. And the mint colored dress with tulle coming out the bottom.

The refined vintage look (but newly made) of her store makes me want to live there (I am seriously considering having Charlie make me a lamp that’s a cross between Casablanca and Geminola and one other thing I can’t remember that I should write down). It also seriously makes me want to reconsider the simple birthday dress I’m making for a much more impractical, fun, frilly looking dress with tulle and lace and fancy trims.

Morals of today?

1: I should definitely subscribe to Lucky. It’s $15 for two years, and I’ve spent $6 in the last two months alone buying it.

2: Dresses should become a staple in my wardrobe.

3: If #2 is going to work out, I think I’m going to need to move away from Provo’s frigid winters ASAP.

4: If #3 doesn’t work out, then I at least need to invest in some wool/thermal lined tights and see if I can survive the winter wearing those with dresses.

5: I need to a: make millions of dollars for existing, and b: take all the free time I have and sew.

6: OH MY GOSH!!! I SHOULD BE PLANNING MY BIRTHDAY PARTY!

And there’s only one month left.  Please forgive me if I cut myself off from the world and start avoiding everyone’s calls.  Anyone who would like to participate in helping me achieve these goals, please come visit and stay in the Wilford Room. ;)

Since I didn’t have time to make eleventy billion invitations to my birthday and/or if you didn’t get one and would like to come, you are still invited. If you did/do get one, it will probably be after the fact anyways, making this post very useful.

Anyways, the front of the card looked like this:

And the inside looked like this:

(it’s a PDF file so you have to click on the link to see it)

Anyways, this was my first attempt at photoshop, and I was on a time crunch… so PLEASE do not acknowledge the faults (like what are those white streaks/blemishes around the anorexic arm and cupcake?  and why is her head so big?).  Instead, acknowledge how awesome I am at details like the shining light sparkles on my crown, or how I changed (not the queen of hearts, that’s my own technical difficulty)…

The cupcake to be bite size in my hand.  Or the fabulous color of the Betsey Johnson dress (and stole her legs).  Or the tube top dress into a collared fabulosity.  Or the colors of the chair.

For a beginner, I feel quite successful.

So, sometimes I wonder to myself what my wedding would have been like if I had chosen to be married on June 7, 2008 (my mom’s parents’ wedding anniversary), like I initially wanted.

Although I loved the gray/silver bridesmaid color scheme that I picked:

It is very fitting to the winter season, and I doubt that it would translate well into the summer (I was very particular about how I picked my colors – a lot of factors went into it: flower choices, dress choices, the season, the location of the reception, my dress, the current/up-and-coming colors, lots and lots of research via vogue, wedding magazines, elle, nylon, country living, real simple, etc.).

I still hadn’t figured out what color scheme I would have used when this morning I came across this picture:

How cute is that?! It would have been fiesta country fabulous. And what an easy thing for bridesmaids to do. Show them the picture and list a BUNCH of colors. Let them pick their color on a first come, first serve basis. Buy and/or make a fabulous party skirt in their color (the skirt would probably need some volume). Wear a white top of your choosing (but not a t-shirt). Optional: choose a black belt to wear with it. Wear black shoes.

I for one think it would have been an amazing plan for a fun, bright, summer wedding.

Gray, to every color. I’m sure my dress would have changed. I KNOW the location would have been different. And different flowers would be in season. Different food would have been served. Different colors for the invitations. A LOT of things would have been different.

But, some things would have been the same, like the army men in the delicious Amelia funfetti cake, the first dance remix, the paper cranes, and probably the groom. ;)

Oh, and the fabulous get-away car:

So, I’ve been looking at dresses online lately, trying to decide what my next unfinished sewing project would be…

I just love Betsey Johnson’s way of melding a billion things into one… classic country, sweetness, edginess, hippie-ism, girly frilliness, party glamour…  Here are some recent finds that I wish I could purchase:

40s Frock Dress

Guadeloupe Short Sleeve Dress

And as a special treat, I share with you this dress that I also wish I could afford by Corey Lynn Calter at the Goldyn online shop:

Yasmine Square Neck Dress

I have returned from the road trip (which was a blast)!  I’ll have to post some of my spoils of driving across country… but until I get settled, here are some recent purchases I’ve made online since I’ve been home:

This super cute lilac swimsuit from newport news (only $19!!) – hopefully the lilac color looks as cute on me as it does on her…

These (also) super cute earrings (the Hennessey Earrings) from Coryn’s new etsy shop!!

We started our family road trip.  posts may be sparse.  but, i am documenting myself, a jump rope, and cardivascular activity at the sites we visit.  a gallery of all the photos will follow the trip.

yesterday we drove from st. anthony, id, through rock creek hollow and martin’s cove to casper, wy.

today we went through crazy horse monument and mt rushmore to keystone, sd.

and yes, i am sending myself postcards this whole trip!!

Which also happens to be my 6 month wedding anniversary.

Yes I planned that.  Ok not really, but it helped to pick the date.

{}{}{}{}{}

we parked in china to watch the {slightly disappointing} fireworks show in San Francisco.

{}{}{}{}{}{}

We ate our wedding cake.  It was still quite tasty.

Some things I love right now:

This Alice in Wonderland photo Coryn showed me from Etsy | The Happy Hooker Crochet book | The handblown cupcake stand from Fred Flare | The :’( Sold Out Johnny Cupcakes tee I’ve been eyeing for two years | The For Love 21 picture and floral headbands | As always – self adhesive mustaches from Fred Flare

They make me smile (and cry a little).
