You are currently browsing the monthly archive for September 2008.
Newly discovered (but a bit late): bitsandbobbins.com.
As I was on the computer this morning, browsing through who knows what instead of studying for my Art History midterm or getting ready for church, I came across this blog.
Unfortunately, the writer just had a baby and won’t be blogging anymore (for now). But the archives were still promising. My favorite to look at were these pictures, which reminded me of Britt and London:
Since fall officially started earlier this week, I thought I’d post my little wishlist of things I’m REALLY wanting (and for the most part, not finding)….
::drumroll::
1| Tan Boots (this is a rollover from my unpublished summer wishlist)
Of course, hers are vintage from the Salvation Army, just like every other person who owns a fabulous pair of tan boots. That or they have more details and cost about $300-500. But I love the tan color and am searching for a pair…

2| Khaki Trench Coat
I actually went to try this on, but didn’t buy it (it definitely needs a second opinion). I feel like a classic khaki trench coat is a wardrobe staple. Or maybe it’s just because of the five days I watched Casablanca non-stop this summer….
——–
3| Dark Trouser Pants
I really want a pair of trouser leg pants in either dark wash denim or navy blue. Britt has the most fabulous pair, in case you were wondering.
——–
4| White Collared Shirt
This isn’t really exciting (but I think I’m trying to build up the foundations of my wardrobe), but it also isn’t really easy to find. I’m looking for a great fitting, long sleeve, white collared shirt (with anti-wrinkle and stain resistant finishes if possible) that a: doesn’t cost like $80, and b: isn’t see through.
——–
5| Navy Cardigan
This is actually the exact cardigan I want (I think – I haven’t tried it on yet), but I might be too late since it’s on sale and unavailable online….
——–
6| Chinos
I’m thinking I want a dark pair (brown or black – more basics)… But I’m not sure yet.
——–
7| Black Chiffon Petticoat
The picture is of a blue chiffon petticoat because I have yet to find a black one that is how I want it. Requirements: Made of chiffon, has the cute little ruffles on the bottom edge, 24″-ish length (none of those skanky 15″-ers).
Also, this is much less of a “fashion” wish list and more of a general wish list… but I’m still wanting/hopefully getting one very soon!!
BONUS| I’d also like to look as cute as this girl.

You know, Paris Hilton has a reality show to find her new bff, perhaps I should host a contest to find blogging friends who I can tag…. I’m sure the demand is high.
a song I have been singing recently:
“If on occasion you have found your language is in question,
or ugly thoughts come to your mind, then here’s a good suggestion:
Just hum your favorite hymn, sing out with vigor and vim,
and you will find it clears your mind.
Hum your favorite hymn.”
I think I just like saying “vigor and vim” but the thought is still a good one. There are many church songs I find myself repeating the words to in my mind to help lift my spirits…

Alright. I feel like I might have used this before but here we go anyways.
“Happiness does not depend on what happens outside of you but what happens inside of you.” – Harold B. Lee
I think that after living in the ghetto and now trying to move in as quickly as possible, I have realized how grateful I am for the positive outlook Brad worked so hard to keep in our unfavorable circumstance. It’s seriously a waste of time to be angry.
The church is true.

PS a fun tale that is slightly related but not obligated if you would like to continue reading:
Our first Sunday in London (well, second, since the first Sunday was fast Sunday), most of us were unprepared for the Sabbath, food-wise. In the London Center, our breakfasts and dinners were provided Monday through Friday (if I remember correctly) and dinner on Sunday. Usually there were enough leftovers to make it through lunches and Saturday nights if needed. But that Sunday, we had run out of most food (no bread, so we couldn’t even make pb&j) so we would have to wait until dinner. All we had to eat were tortillas, so we seriously took jam packets and honey packets and spread them on tortillas and ate them like homeless people. One girl in particular was really upset about it, and I kept on telling her, “We’re in London, don’t waste your time being angry. In a few weeks, this is going to be an amazingly funny story and we’re going to laugh about it.” She wasn’t totally sold on the idea, but worked with it. Fall semester I had a class with that girl and she said to me, “You know what, that Sunday really is funny to me now. I’m really glad I can tell that story.” SO, the moral is, keep things in perspective and try to decide to be happy – since it doesn’t depend on uncontrollable circumstances but our own outlooks – which we can control.
I do not think I feel right skimming over September 11 without giving thanks to all those who serve our country in the armed forces. Also, remembering all those whose lives were lost on that morning.
Let’s not forget.
I love these presentation envelopes from Paper Source. They’re HUGE – large enough to hold 8 1/2 by 11 sheets of paper. I’m getting some, and I’m going to mail out all my writing submissions in them from now on.
I must say that although I hate having to use the bathroom every two hours (a professor once told me that you should “have to go” that often if you are staying fully hydrated), I still value the idea of staying hydrated.
However, there are issues I have with the matter, the first being that water bottles tend to be pretty bulky/heavy/oddly shaped for toting them around in my backpack and/or purse along with my books, notebooks, planner, and other life needs. Most currently, I was using a flask shaped water bottle (with the sticker peeled off) from Liquid Hydration, which proved to be the most convenient shape.
Although I loved this {slightly shocking} flask, it also encouraged issue numero dos – it’s a waste of space once it’s empty.
Enter the Platypus.
Platypus Hydration has a water bottle that I’m pretty sure is my next purchase. They are collapsible and look long/flat, making it the perfect choice for molding in between the contents of my bags. As it loses water, it also gets smaller. So my reward for staying hydrated is addition space in my backpack/purse.
Of course, I’m sure I’ll keep the flask just for grins.
{I’m thinking of ordering the .5L and/or the 1.0L. They’re only 6.95/7.95 respectively. If you want in, we can save on shipping! Let me know…}
So, we are currently homeless and staying in a hotel (after a weekend trip to Brianhead for the BHHFR). That is my excuse for why this was not posted on Sunday…
Just a little diddy….
“Ere you left your room this morning. did you think to pray? In the name of Christ, our Savior, did you sue for loving favor as a shield today? Oh, how praying rests the weary! Prayer can change the night to day. So, when life gets dark and dreary, don’t forget to pray.”
- Hymns 140
(I made it paragraph style so you can read it differently, I always think that helps)
Amid all the hecticities that are going on, let’s not forget to pray!!
